Key West City Hall

Location: Key West, FL

As the general contractor, Burke Construction Group led the transformation of Key West City Hall, originally constructed in the 1920s as Monroe County High School. This historic building served for nearly 90 years as a high school, middle school, and eventually as Glynn Archer Elementary.

The building was repurposed for adaptive reuse as City Hall. Construction incorporated a modern structure within the preserved 1920s walls. Historic features like Auditorium seating, roof trusses, and metal windows were carefully integrated, while reclaimed heart pine wood from the original structure was reused throughout.

Built to LEED Platinum standards, this award-winning, sustainable City Hall features solar panel arrays, rainwater cisterns, and eco-friendly site amenities. Recognized by the USGBC as the “Most Outstanding” project in 2018, Key West City Hall is a model of environmental stewardship and community pride.
