On Thursday, January 30th, Adidas unveiled the first ever sustainable field in Miami-Dade County. This field was built by Burke Sports in partnership with Act Global. The field contains 1.8M bottles recycled plastic. The plastic was captured from the oceans to prevent pollution.
The field was donated to Miami Edison High School, an inner city school in the heart of Little Haiti. Ahead of Super Bowl LIV, Adidas threw several events to celebrate the opening of the field and hosted a 7v7 flag football tournament with some of the city’s best high school football players. Notable celebrities at the events included retired NFL legends Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Deion Sanders, superstar music artist Pharrell, and many current NFL players such as James White and Sony Michel of the New England Patriots, James Conner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Devonta Freeman of the Atlanta Falcons, and Super Bowl MVP Von Miller of the Denver Broncos. The athletes and media celebrated the amazing accomplishment of installing a field in the heart of Miami that would be a game changer for a high school and a shining example of how to prioritize sustainability.
Burke Sports was involved in the site work, drainage, grading, base rock, finish stone, installation of turf, and installation of amenities. It was an honor to be a part of such a momentous project in the city of Miami.
